1928 Singer Senior rebuild and Hello !
Re: 1928 Singer Senior rebuild and Hello !
Looking very good Rob. I don't suppose Jim fancies making another eight spring bolts?
Re: 1928 Singer Senior rebuild and Hello !
Coming along nicely!
Lucky that you got a brass radiator surround. Mine is a '29 model Senior sold in November '28, so has the 'heavy' rear axle, but the radiator surround is steel and rotted away near the front mounted drain plug. A crude riveted repair was done many years ago. Chrome quality isn't so good either!
Great to see interest in these earlier Singers as they really are a quality motor and reflect the company at its financial and production peak as Britain's third largest manufacturer of motor vehicles. After that it was slowly down hill!

I had a very enjoyable afternoon at Rob's works today, especially to brief Jim on my machining 'wish list' which I hope he will be able to fit in around the excellent work he is doing for Rob. Colin Borley, the fount of all knowledge, was also there so that was very entertaining and informative. The photo shows Jim on the left, Rob on the right with Colin in the middle wishing he had a bigger hammer for the precision job in hand.

Good to see you Colin,
I seem to have created a bit of a car club,
thoroughly enjoyable though !
Made a bit of progress this week, never enough time though ...
Hi Philip, yes the brass radiator cover was a lucky find, can't wait to see it chromed.
Will post progress pics again soon

Lucky, you lot, to have such talented Singer enthusiasts so close at hand.
We have to travel quite a distance to speak Singer with anyone knowledgeable.
Savor it!
Cheers,
David

Hi
I have had this Singer bit for some time as it came off one I owned years ago. It's an extension for greasing the front shackle of a rear spring, if you see what I mean. It brings the nipple out through a hole in the valance above the running board. Would it be of interest/use to you
kind regards Bill

For remote greasing, you can also use air hose parts. The thread is usable for grease nipples, and you can buy black air hose in different sizes.
In machines they are using it for making "central" greasing points

Thank you for the offer of that grease extension tube Bill, I'll say yes please, I think we are one short so that's perfect if still available?

Hey Rob,regarding the radiator shell, mine is original and is nickle plated, not chrome. Cheers Phil.
Re: 1928 Singer Senior rebuild and Hello !
Hi Phil, that's interesting, apparently they were a mix of chrome and nickel plating around that time.
Re: 1928 Singer Senior rebuild and Hello !
Well, Rob, the spare looks a little longer than the original...
Didn't you saw off the remainder of those 6 metres?

Looks like a bargain at that price.
