quieter and quieter...
as long as you are running GTX in your motor, I would not think its a issue with oil getting thin, what oil are you using ? it should be Castrol GTX 20-50 no matter what your mechanic says, that is what it should be.

Re: Loud motor at startup
no idea what "bang bang" could be, but is it possible its Tap Tap instead ? without hearing it, no way to know for real but if your valves clearances are way out of spec, that is sound that will quiet down as the engine warms up but its a tapping sound, not a bang sound. Might want to pull the valve ...

Re: Cylinder Head Side Plate Gasket?
I can't help much on this one, so someone else will have to. Back in the late 1970s, you could get asbestos gasket material and that is what I used, no sealant. It held for 34 years of driving with no leaks. I assume one can't get that good stuff anymore, but remember that this also is your exhaust ...

great article on the rear axle, I recommend everyone look at the PDF if they need rear axle work. My own article on rebuilding the rear axle is not even close to this much detail.

Re: Oil pressure tube to gauge
You are overthinking it. However, I don’t like the solution because in order to move the oil line for any maintenance you have to undo the nut on the manifold, which may cause a manifold leak. Other than that, I think this is a solution looking for a problem. Vibration was not a big issue on the oil ...

The 6” tires will not fit in the trunk. Original size is 5” My carb gasket template has gotten wet a few times but still works. I didn’t even know that carb kits were still available. I made that template back in the late 1970s and still use it. I make a xerox and cut out a pattern to trace onto gask ...

Brian aka jeans_old_man
I found out the other day that Brian has passed away but decided to wait until notification by the U.K. SOC. VERY sorry to hear that he passed away and didn’t get his 1.5 finished. He was a regular here on this forum and will be greatly missed. I for one was looking forward to his advice as I finish ...

Re: Girling Brake reservoir replacement ?
I have not looked yet, but as I don't have one at all I will have to eventually. I always assumed they were on many makes and models of cars of that era, I see them on MG's, Morgans, Jags, etc. Of course I have not measured them to check the actual size but isn't it pretty standard ? By the way, if ...

unfortunately, I can't help. On my one axle left, the drain plug is a normal drain plug that has a hex head for a wrench, not original but its what it has on it.
