Apron Wing Nuts

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Apron Wing Nuts

Post by Peter McKercher »

Finally after many years, I have made up the correct wing nuts to secure the front apron for my 2 Nine Sports and my Le Mans. A small detail, but an important one. The wing nut requires a stepped bolt that also secures the front eye of the spring to the chassis.

The assorted pieces

Also, my Le Mans radiator mesh, completed and installed. It was a bear to put together and certainly costly to produce, but a better alternative to off-the-shelf substitutes.

Gosh that's a bit different to the scruffy nut and bolt on my Singer Le Mans!

This prompts me to ask why one would need to have easy access to remove the front apron?

Well, that's one answer and not incorrect. That and it's original to the cars and I like originality. Mike knows me too well.

However, the more relevant answer is that I trailer my cars long distances to various shows (5 hours to Stowe for example) and in order to get the car on the trailer, I use a winch hooked to the front axle of the Singer. If I leave the valance on, it fowls the pulley cable and damages the body work. Friend Barry Phillips probably wishes his had been easily removable last year at Stowe when he damaged his licence plate and valance when unloading his '35 Le Mans.

But back to point number one, it's just such a nice shiny bit. I would have been a sucker if I'd been around when Columbus landed with his bag o' beads.

Ron Stauber has also taken the time to buff his as well on his freshly restored Nine Sports. Nice touch.
