Parts needed

Post by craig »

Hi,
I find myself in need of a jack and the elbow piece that fits between the carb and the air silencer/air filter on a 1952 Singer 4AD. If anyone out there has either of these, please contact me at craig.m@roadrunner.com.

Thanks!

Craig,
The proper elbow is a cast aluminum piece with a flared body and will probably be difficult to find. Since you called it an elbow, it got me thinking, maybe you could have an elbow fabricated by a local muffler shop. It might get you on the road until you can locate the proper piece.

Good Luck,
Mark

Thanks Mark for your suggestions. I actually just purchased a similiar piece on ebay that's for a 39 Singer that I think will work until I can figure out how to get one fabricated or I find one somewhere. I haven't received the piece I purchased yet as it just closed a day or so ago, but it looks very similar and I'm told by my restorer that he can make it work for now. I hope your restoration and your motor in particular are coming along well. My seats should go in this week and we found a soft top and curtains through Paul Barber and we're using those as patterns to get new ones made. Paul's looks very authentic with the split rear window and the three window side curtains.

Hey Craig,

Bill Haverly, the Roadster spares man of ASCO in the UK may have one. If I recall, the early post-war 1074cc engine Solex carb ( 1950 and on ) inlet elbow is similar in design to the 4AD 1500cc one or you can use the small pancake filters used on the 4AD twin carb ( and other Britcars, I'm sure )

Bill can be reached at spullen3@aol.com

Best of luck with the restoration!

Cheers,
Phillip

Hi Craig,
Maybe my reply is too late and may not be relevant now. I remember that Trevor Cornellius used to have the carb elbow. Over 12 years years ago I had ordered the elbow of my 1948 Roadster's SU carb and he sent me an elbow that possibly was for the Solex carb. I returned it and he sent me the correct one later. I think that the elbow was remanufactured, cast in aluminium. So I feel that whoever took over the spares from Trevor after his demise may still be having these items. Possibly Trevor may have been using some pattern for the casting which could still exist.
Regards,
Mohan
