A 1953 SINGER 4AD WAS AUCTIONED IN GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN ON SATURDAY THE 17TH. THE GAVEL PRICE WAS $20500.00 PLUS A 10% BUYERS PREMIUM AND 6% SALES TAX. THATS A TOTAL PURCHACE PRICE OF 23,900.00. THE CAR WAS IN GOOD SHAPE AND RAN WELL. THERE WERE A NUMBER OF MISSING AND WRONG BITS BUT ON THE WHOLE A NICE CAR. I WILL TRY TO POST SOME PICTURES A LITTLE LATER. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE THE CHASSIS NUMBER PLATE OR BODY NUMBER. I COULD NOT SEE THE ENGINE NUMBER OR CHASSIS STAMP EITHER. THE CAR DID HAVE A CAST PLATE THAT SOMEONE MADE BUT THE NUMBER WAS WRONG.
WELL GUYS WHAT DO YOU THINK WELL BOUGHT OR WELL SOLD?
I THINK WELL SOLD.

Re: A 4AD AUCTIONED
Well sold, I would say. That's the highest I have seen one go for in North America.

Re: A 4AD AUCTIONED
Finally people are recognizing the value of these cars!!!
Ok, dream mode over... that is a bit high over here, especially for a car that is in good shape and missing a few bits.
Photos would be much appreciated and any idea who the lucky bidder is??

Re: A 4AD AUCTIONED
At that price, i might have to get back into 4AD's. I have done so many I can put one together blindfolded. Lets see, a couple of motors, enough body parts to put 3 together, oh darn, I can only make $20k as I only have one frame. That is VERY expensive in my opinion but its good, they are moving up finally. I guess the world ran out of MG TD's to restore and people noticed the little Singer's finally.

Re: A 4AD AUCTIONED
Wow, Forrest,
Well, if this isn't the poster child case for joining the club FIRST and getting an expert opinion from the correct Registrar BEFORE buying I don't know what is!!
@$17,500.00USD is pretty much the most I've seen for a 4AD in North America to date. That one was fully restored and fitted with wire wheels.
I'm a Pre-War guy, but I have owned a 4AD. Maybe Mike's right and the world has run out of TD's etc, but I would like to believe that the hobby is finally beginning to recognise the qualities of the 4AD when compared against such rivals: Solid mechanics, the best engine Singer made, distinctive styling with classic looks and 2 + 2 seating with a trunk to boot ( to mix my metaphors ) What's not to like?! It's a pretty good performer too when set up properly.
I would normally say I hope the purchaser joins the club, but I would hate to be the one to tell him what he bought, given your description!
Caveat Emptor!

Hey Forrest,
Was the 4AD part of the R-11 Museum Collection of Ralph Levin mentioned on Bringatrailer.com?

PHILLIP
YES THE CAR WAS PART OF THE R11 AUCTION. I WENT BACK AND LEFT A CARD IN THE GLOVE BOX TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHO THE NEW OWNER IS. THE CAR WAS WAITING FOR TRANSPORT SO IT WAS MOST LIKLY NOT A LOCAL SALE.
I WILL STILL TRY TO GET SOME PICTURES UP. NOT VERY GOOD WITH THE COMPUTER.
