New Pre-War Singer engine castings...

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Thanks Phillip and David (Danish). I am hoping that David (cdk84) will confirm the number he used in 2017. I haven't seen David on the forum for quite a while though so perhaps newly married life is a full time job!

I will try the mobile number today as its the best I have and this looks like the only source of history on the car as, unfortunately, Robin Throp's widow has no idea about the car I am interested in.

Wouldn't it be nice if John's Dad's old car had one of the Gibson engines in it...….

Wow, Colin, even the tools are in place! Looks like the car was well done and has just been neglected. A lovely find!

Let us know how you gt on with Gibsons. I would like to buy one of the their alloy sumps for my '33.

Cheers,
Phillip

I had a lovely conversation with John Gibson today. He remembered ELA very well as she was rebuilt by the Gibsons having been found in a collapsed shed in a coal yard. She won many awards and they used her a lot before she was sold to Robin Throp. He remembers the engine as being crack free so he thought she would just be stuck rather than being seized from some mechanical failure. Unfortunately there were family issues and apparently Wayne took all the awards and most of the paperwork one day and, following his subsequent suicide, this has all been lost.

John has kindly agreed to keep in touch and will help with any questions I may have. He will also have a look to see if any material related to ELA is still tucked away somewhere. I tend to agree Phillip - she is a real find! :D -

Well Colin, some cars have a certain magic about them and when I saw the photo of this one, now yours, I got that feeling. I had the same feeling when I first met my Singer Le Mans...hard to define!

The Gibsons do lovely work, so I am sure that car was a real bargain.

And now you have made contact with Gibsons again, so we know how to reach them. Maybe next time you chat you could ask if John has any alloy sumps! lol

John definitely reads texts Phillip as I sent him a text saying I had bought ELA and asking if it would be OK to call. He sent a text back a couple of hours later saying it would be OK. He probably doesn't take calls from unfamiliar numbers like many of us in these days of cold selling and scams!
