Stowe 2009 Edition
Greetings All!
Stowe is just around the corner. We will be setting up Singer Central in the same location as last year for the main NASOC events - the Golden Eagle Resort at 511 Mountain Road. The site is convenient being almost across the road from the show field.
Here are the main events:
Friday:
- "Ballam Run": A nice drive through the outskirts of Stowe. We leave from Singer Central at 11:00. Bring sandwiches and snacks for lunch as we stop mid-way.
- Show Registration and cocktail: Drop by the show field to pick up your registration material. The event organizers also put on a little cocktail party with drinkies and snacks.
Saturday:
- Show Day 1: On the field in the Singer class. Another new Singer display entitled "Barn Find". We have become very well known by the seasoned show attendee. Kind of hard to let down the fans!
- NASOC Meet Supper: A simple pizza gathering in the conference room at the Golden Eagle Resort. The charge is just enough to cover the pizza and conference room. Bring your own beverages, and if you have excess Singer spares, bring them along! A couple of members are bringing a few bits and who knows, you may find just what you are missing to get your project done or on the road!
Sunday:
- Show Day 2: On the field again, but much more casual. The show wraps up and we all head home with the memories of the fun we had and the stories shared.
The show is pre-registered, so if you have not yet done so, you can get more info here: http://www.britishinvasion.com
Pass on a note to your NASOC Show contacts if you are planning to attend!

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
A contest !!! who will win ?
Ok, want to get your pictures on the Singer web site home page ? Whoever sends me to most pictures of Stowe this year (2009) will win the rights to put 5 pictures in the home page slideshow.
Rules:
Each picture is worth 1 point with some worth extra credit.
1. no fair sending me 300+ of the same exact picture.
2. pictures in oder to count must be Singer related
3. lets not go overboard here and send me 2 dozen pictures of each and every Singer on the field
4. I also don't need 14 pictures of Paul and 16 pictures of Phillip, Peter, Gene or anyone else.
5. be reasonable in what you send, please.
6. detail pictures that are clear and sharp and could be useful to others that are restoring a car, will get 1.5 points
7. embarrassing pictures of our President Mr. Bouchard, get extra credit
What you get is to dictate 5 pictures that will randomly rotate through the slideshow on the home page, they can be any thing, your car (my first choice), your wife, kids, your dog/cat, that embarrassing picture of our Pres., pretty much anything with normal exceptions like NO political statements
in case of a tie, winner will be the one that sent them first.
I decide the winner and what is appropriate to put on the home page and I have the final say on this (of course the club executive can override me on this but lets not get them involved).

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Just browsing through an old nasoc news (1981) and came across this picture of Joe Tarta's Singer - one of those rare wire wheel conversions. Joe will be at Stowe this year - 28 years later. Joe - do you still have the same car.

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Stowe is just a few days away!
Weather is iffy for Friday so if it rains, then the drive and picnic may be postponed or canceled. Still feel free to drop on by the "1867" house at the Golden Eagle Resort. The house is just opposite Weeks Road. Look for the Singers parked there.

these are British cars, they wont melt in the rain, it will just feel like home to them.
If I can suffer the frozen wasteland to show up for the Queens show, you guys can handle some rain

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Well put my friend! I remember that morning. Even this "tough he-man from the north" had to admit that it was a bit nippy that morning. I promise that there will be no further whining, and as they say "the show must go on!". Too late for me anyhow, I am packing things up and ready to head down tomorrow.
Weather for Sat and Sun is looking (dare I even suggest) pretty good!
Reports, including photos (maybe a contest winner) will be posted from the show! Something tells me we may see something new this year! Well, old, but newly old, or something like that.

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Greetings from Stowe!
A very pleasant drive and the weather today is simply glorious!! Tomorrow is still showing a 60% chance of rain which means a 40% of not-rain... I am a gamblin' man, so let's hope for the best. The NOAA report does say before noon, so let's see if Mother Nature's clock is right.
Here is the rest of the forecast:
Friday: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 60. Calm wind becoming northwest between 5 and 8 mph.
Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 41. North wind between 5 and 9 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 59. North wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Saturday Night: Patchy frost after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 32. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 68.
I will give more updates as time goes on.

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Day 1 (well morning 1) of the British Invasion!!!
Rain, well this just could be my lucky day!! Rain came and went. The sky is still a little grey and the ground is wet, but that is all.
Thanks for the hay Dave, I have not seen my e-mail yet as you must fight for the hotel's computer. I managed to arm wrestle a lady who was on for more than the prescribed 10 minutes. Sure she complained about writing to her grand children but RULES ARE RULES!!! It did take the best 3 of 5 to beat her but beat her I did.
We had a great gathering last night. Bill Haverly & Sandy were there along with Eugene Abbondelo, Bil and Tony Haley, Gene and Lynn Mulder, Phillip Avis, Len Pearcey, Pim Visser and yours truly on kitchen and cleaning duties. (Mike there may be a photo or two for prize consideration that I will try to get posted).
Signing out for now, I hope to get another update later in the evening, as long as Granny ain't on the 'puter (and that she has not been exercisong... he was tough to beat once, I would hate to try for twice).

Re: Stowe 2009 Edition
Greetings from Stowe!
Well my luck proved right again for the Friday... it rained. But just until 2:00 PM. We delayed the Ballam Run until then and wandered through the Stowe countryside to the Von Trapp Lodge. Photos and a surprise guest! Robert Morreau arrived for the run if only to give Bill Haverly a ride in his Franken Singer. Bill held on for dear life, but did enjoy the ride.
Saturday was beautiful. A little cold in the AM, but the temperature rose... especially at the end of the day when the winnienrs were announced! John Lewis with his 4ADT, in his first showing, took 3rd prise, Peter McKercher with the Sports was awarded 2nd and Pim Visser, who trailered his car from Texas, was awarded with the top prize for Singers. His beautifully restored 4AD definately cought the eyes of the crowd.
Supper was an event in and of itself. The Conference room was full to the brim with Singer owners, spoces, friends, family and kids! Patrick and Dee Desmond's little ones were full of car stories and drawings! Pizza was the usual fare, but the atmosphere was thick with stories and a fair amount of old grease and oil residue... but that is for another time.
We are winding up for now, and will post a couple of photos. I managed to get most peoples photos and they will be sent to Mike for his judging, and posting of the Photo at Stowe contest. And yes, I may have been caught in some embarrasing situations.
