FYI, the Dunlop tires are available in England from MWS International at $175 USD ea. They also supply wire wheels that are absolutely correct at $254 ea. A discount of 5% is given to Singer club members. I purchased a set last year for my Nine Sports when the old wires became too lumpy.

Welcome aboard! Hope you will join our happy band in NASOC!
Looks like a lovely and largely unmolested project and wonderful to see it added to the growing list of Pre-War Singers surfacing recently in North America. There are a few within reasonable distance to you. I'm in Canada and I have a '28 Senior saloon, a '33 and a 34 Sports, a '36 Le Mans Special Speed Model and the remains of a Bantam tourer, which is sadly totally rusted out, frame included.
Looks like you need a front apron and the door handles are on backwards and the stone guards are missing from the rear wings, but this is all easy work. Would love to see more detail shots! Headlamp glasses can be a bit difficult to get if you want the true 8" flat 'full Diffusa' style, but if you don't mind a variation on the theme, some vintage car parts places in the UK have them on the shelf. If you need details shots of some of these items I can post them or send them to you.
The car number ( also the chassis number ) is stamped on one of the front spring hangers at the tip of the front dumb irons. It is the number that is also supposed to be stamped on the oval makers plate. These makers plates are available in the UK with proof of ownership. The chassis / car number should be within the range of the front and rear axle numbers, rather than the longer number you quote. I understand that some US states require a new number allocated by them to be stamped if there are issue with papers or ownership. I think Mike can speak to that as I recall he had that issue with one of his cars. Perhaps that happened to yours at some point. The body number is stamped on a plain style oval plate and this is usually also stamped on the bonnet spine fold, but unfortunately requires the bonnet sides to be separated from the center hinge.

As Phillip has indicated, you should be able to find the serial number on the dumb iron. Check out this page on our club website to help you find it. You should find it to be #60057 if your licence plate ANU 965 is the original for the car. I'm sure a good deal more information is available, which our Pre War registrar should be able to dig up for you.

By the way, if 60057 is indeed the correct number for your car it might well be a type 1 originally with suicide doors. Is there any evidence that the doors were previously hinged at the back?

For your information, the British registration number series that included ANU 965 was issued from 1934 by the Derbyshire County Council (currently Nottingham).

In fact the car was sold to E Toft of Derby and entered in the May 1934 RSAC Scottish Rally. While it was a Non Starter it's likely the car had seen other competition before entering such a major event. It would be interesting to investigate that.

Nice looking Singer. Great to see another out and found! As far as the tires. If they are motorcycle tires I would not use them as the weight of the car is alot greater than a motorcycle.

Over the years I have had the displeasure of having to un-stick an old marine engine that has either sat outside or at some point actually been under water. An old mechanics trick that I swear by is automatic transmission fluid down each cylinder. Just a little will do it and let it sit for a few weeks. I don't know why but for some reason ATF will unstick rings when motor oil will not. I would also pull the gas tank and have it provesionaly cleaned and sealed. Key work here is "sealed". Even after a through cleaning old gas tanks will give up microscopic particles that will muck up the carbs. The worst tanks are those that had a zinc plating on the inside, you can never totaly get rid of the zinc corrision once it starts unless you seal the tank.

Hey Mikey thanks a million for the Aussie connection you have placed in the forums this along with the Singer Car Club Australia site which is coming together will spread the word even more! In case I forget here are the details(unless you already have them) of my Le Mans. Chassis 62771 delivered new to Victoria Australia 1935. Two seat Special Speed.Painted Red/White with black interior.

Please be sure to let the Singer owners know about the the first National gathering of British Cars and British Car Clubs. It all happens next year May 30 - June 3 2012 during British Car Week in Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs Arkansas. The host hotel is the Arlington in Hot Springs. It wont be all British without Singers!!!

Sorry to dive underground for awhile. I have moved my Singer down to Pensacola, Florida. I figured my father would have more time and would currently enjoy working on the car more than me (I have small kids who wouldn't understand me disappearing to the garage every spare moment). His name is "Gabe" and I think he put in for membership to the club. I'll direct him to this forum for any help he might need. Thanks!
