LM Rear Axle

new Member having issues with images...posting for him, Mike.

Dear all,

I started to restore a Singer Le Mans 1934, two seater, 1 litre
(Car No 62743) which I received some month ago. It recently passed the
technical board and is allowed to go on the street. Everything is ok except
the differential. It is damaged and strong noise is produced when starting
with gear 1 and slight noise is produced when changing the next gears.
However, the car runs but the noise sounds dangerous. Now we opened the
back axle and checked the Crown Wheel and Pinion finding damaged teeth on
both. Before ordering a new set of CW and Pinion at Hardwick I would like
to ask for advise: I have some doubt about the type of rear axle because it
looks different from pictures of "true Singer LM". I received valuable help
and information from Roly Alcock who at least stated that my Singer LM
might run with a non-Singer LM rear axle and advised me to use this
singercars forum and ask you. I attached some pictures. Does anybody know
this rear axle? Is this a Singer type? If yes, which? Is there any idea how
to proceed with repairing this differential? Are spares available which I
could buy anywhere?
Thanks a lot Hans-Christoph

working on it...works for me while "impersonating" his account, so privileges are good.

The reason I asked Hans-Christoph to post on this forum about checking that his axle, was not only was it a Singer, but was it a Le Mans.
The rear of the axle casing does not appear to be bolted on with a ring of bolts, but a sealed fit.
