Steering box 4A problems

Post by tvdwerf »

Today I mounted the steeringbox on his place, and try to solve the next problem:|
Turning to the right it goes to the max, but to the left, a bolt is touching the tyre...
What is wrong here?

When I try to adjust, only the place from touching changes..

It appears that your steering arm is not fully seated on the shaft?

The nut is not 100 % on his place, but more than 2 mm movement is not possible because of the cone.
The short arm has only 5 cm adjustment between long and short, both gives only another place from touching on the tyre.

Also another way of mounting the parts does not work
The first idea was the axle position, because the leaf springs have the axle mounting not in the middle.
But because the wheelbase is exact 231 cm, this is not the reason.
because I got the car as a big puzzle in parts, I did not know how it was mounted

I know you said you have the correct wheelbase, but just to verify, the longer length of the REAR spring goes to the front of the axle, so if your rear spring is in wrong and front also wrong, you will have correct wheelbase but parts may not line up.

Front and rear are right, the axle is in the right position on the chassis.
The brakes are working normal with the default lengths from the bars.
I had an extra pair from them and all were normal fitting after just a few turns adjustment

I saw a car wit a straight arm, mine is bended.
The max left is 5 cm less as the max right turn.
With a test drive to the left, I need a lot of room to go on the road.
Does somebody have pictures from a 4A with the wheels complete to the left, to see the difference?
I know only the 4A (or the Nine) has this system.

Modified, now the both sides are the same and the tire cannot be touched by the bolt.
Strange why this was the solution. If somebody knows, pleas tell, I still have the original arm.

Are the wheels original with the correct 'inset'? Having suffered a broken steering arm (twice) I am not a fan of driving with a bent arm.

When I bought the project, it were 2.5 cars in parts, 2 chassis, 3 front axles, 12 wheels, and all the serial numbers from the body / axles / engine etc are the right ones. I did not look to it till the first test drive, the other car is sold a year ago.
All the wheels were the same.

This is when I had the body hanging.
The biggest problem is to find an original car to measure on it.
