NASOC News Issue 1-2022 - correction

Post by Peter McKercher »

As my new book on Racing Roadsters is nearing publication, I regrettably have to correct the record on a just published piece in the North American Singer Owners Club news magazine.

In Issue 1-2022, Editor Phillip Avis penned an article entitled “A Racing Roadster Returns Part I”. In it he writes that Geoff Hacker” was instrumental in bringing forward all of the information about Singer racing activities, having made contact with many of the players from back in the day during his research, opening up a whole new story about the roadster that was unique to the USA, and which formed the basis of the book Racing Roadsters by Peter McKercher”.

It is important to note that Racing Roadsters was originally published in 2007, well before I met Geoff and certainly well before Geoff became part of our Singer community. So contrary to Phillip Avis’ assertion, Geoff played no part whatsoever in opening up this “whole new story” nor could any of Geoff’s assistance be construed as having formed the basis of my book. I am being gracious when I say that I expect better from the Editor.

An extensively updated and expanded version of Racing Roadsters will be published shortly. In the Foreword, I acknowledge Geoff’s assistance in locating some of the key characters from back in the day. Geoff is a highly respected automotive historian who has established an extensive network of contacts in the American collector car community. He has opened many doors for me which has allowed me to markedly further my research. For this, I am very grateful.
