Gasket material for brake reservoir

Post by Mark Thompson »

I need to fabricate a gasket for my 4AD brake fluid reservoir. It is to seal where the brake line connects to the botom of the reservoir. Can anyone recommend a suitable material that will resist breakdown in the brake fluid environment.
Thanks, Mark

Seal for M/cyl reservoir

Post by BRG »

Mark,

This should be a flare fitting that self seals with tightening. If it won't seal a piece of soft copper can be formed with a hole in the middle to help seal.

Apparently my brake fluid reservoir had been modified (or broken ) in the past. My reservoir has a hole in the bottom and a bulkhead type fitting adapted to it. Thus, the need for some type of flexible gasket to seal between the fitting and the reservoir. Any suggestions for a material? :?:

Brake M/cyl resevoir

Mark,

Try getting a flat washer with an o-ring mated to it. This should work fine if you use one on each side and they fit snuggly on the screw threads.

I can do that, but I don't know what material to use for the o-rings to resist breakdown by the brake fluid. :(

o-ring seals for brake m/cyl resevour

Mark,

The o-rings should be made of neoprene and will be resistant to brake fluid.
