Did you have ever checked the rate of the valve springs when you rebuilt your engine (s) ?
I did checked mine, and my results are far from the values of the manual.
I have some specs for a 1936/38 9Hp , and 1938 10Hp who are:
Spring in engine , valve closed , spring compressed to the height of 1.442" give a pressure of 44Lbs.
Spring in engine , Valve open , spring compressed to the height of 1.202" give a pressure of 55Lbs
And a spring free length of 2. 7/16 "
This for Exhaust or Intake.
All my springs are shorter, this I am not surprised they are not new anymore.
But the rates are way lower than those given values. But, they are all equal to each other ( more or less ) either in closed or open position.
I asked Hardwick about their new springs, and waiting for a reply.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Valve springs
Hi, The data book gives spring dimensions as ID .840" x OD 1 1/16" x 2 7/16" free length. 9 turns of wire with a diam of .116"
Hope that helps
