I have just acquired a disassembled 1947 roadster. I have all of the aluminum and most of the steel parts, but not all of the ash frame. In particular, I am missing the sills and a lot of the rear structure. Are there any drawings or patterns available for the ash frame?
Thank you
Chris Young

Re: Ash Frame
Take a look at the gallery there are some good pics of the frame. A few (very few) have some rough measurements. I should be able to find some others for you but there are no complete drawings that I aware of.
I had at one time I had tracings of the wood parts I don’t remember who has them now but maybe they will reply if they are in this forum

Mike,
Thank you. This should give me a start at figuring out the frame. I'm sure that I will have a lot of questions.

If you haven't already, check the posts from the gals down under. Josandra has so many pictures, she might have what you want. You could also write her and see if she can help you. Happy hunting.
Re: Ash Frame
I also placed pictures with measurements in the restoration part from Josandra, but if you need more specific data, I can take a picture with measurements from that part.
But mine was also not complete, I had to make wooden parts double because of wrong places from holes\

Hi Chris,
I had this diagram in my files from many years ago when Doug Elliott in the UK was producing Roadster wood kits to order.
The only things not shown in the diagram are the wheel arches. I assume this was because Doug did not provide them.
At least this gives you an idea of the construction. All the timbers were ash and the plywood birch I believe.
I also once owned a '47 A Series, Car #A-512-Q.
Hope that helps!

Re: Ash Frame
Thank you for the helpful posts. I have also found a number of frame photographs on line. I am sure that I will have a number of detail questions as I proceed. I have this one to start with: what is the width of each plywood arch?
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Ash Frame
My pleasure Chris and good luck with the project.
I did a full ash frame rebuild on my A Series and do have photos of the process. I will try to dig them out and scan them to upload.
The arches taper from front to back, being widest at the front and narrowest at the back. Unfortunately I don't have measurements and they most likely varied from car to car, such was the hand-finished nature. The bitch about these bodies is that there isn't really a straight line in them so there are a lot of compound curves.
Hope that helps...
