It's about time I said "Hello"

Hello all,

I live in Worcestershire, England and I've been reading this forum for several years but I've never had anything to ask or say.

I purchased my 1935 LeMans, Special Speed about 10 years ago from a friend who had painstakingly restored from a pile of parts delivered to him on a truck. He had driven many miles in it, including driving from England to LeMans where he took it on the circuit. The car certainly wasn't a "Trailer Queen" because he also used it for trialing for a couple of seasons.

Apart from routine maintenance I have never had to carry to any work on the car and must admit to have only covered about 100 miles in it. - I know!!

The only problems I have found are with the gearbox and the steering box which I have lived with but I now need to address the issues as I am going to be using the car for classic car regularity rallying, in which I currently compete with either my 1968 Rover P6 and 1964 Triumph TR4.

I shall shortly post a couple of questions under separate threads and from what I have read to date, I am sure I will receive some positive responses from other forum members .

Regards,
David

You have a beautiful baby there. Congratulations and welcome to the forums.

I have three questions of you myself. First, what is your red color called as it seems a wonderful deeper shade than mine (supposedly signal red). Second, I love your black fenders (wings) accent and wonder if that was your doing or factory offered. Lastly, I have been searching all over for a set of mirrors that attach to the windscreen as you do and wonder where you found them. I'd love to know.
I hope you and your baby find many life long friends on the forum and many good times.

From America,
Bruce.

Thank you for your kind comments Bruce.

The colour is a 1980s Ford escort colour which I think is indeed Signal Red. However the Singer is parked behind my 1969 Jaguar TWR XJR-S (picture attached) which is definitely Signal Red and the Red of the Singer seems to me to have a little more black in the mix. I'll see if I can find the exact colour anywhere in my records but it was painted about 40 years ago so I'm not hopeful.

I'm not sure if the factory offered that same contrasting paintwork but it was thought that the black wings worked well with the red. The idea of red wheel spokes was also mooted but it was decided that black worked better and was certainly more subtle!

As far as I am aware, The mirrors are standard Singer units and were with the car when it was delivered in a fully dismantled state back in the 1980s. However, there are several rectangular mirrors listed online which could easily be adapted to fit the Singer windscreen. The "stalk" is only a piece of chrome plated metal rod, bent to the appropriate shape. Polished stainless steel rod is readily available and would do the job.

David
