4ad valve settings

i looked around to find out if the
SMILEY FACE METHOD
works for 4ad too ??
in the fora it is only mentioned for 4A model.

good question, no idea. The 4ad had pretty clear timing marks so I didn't need any special method (if I remember correctly)

For every engine I use the same way to check:
Piston in cylinder 1 in top, and open the cover so you can see the both valves , intake and outlet together.
Just in the middle when the one is closing and the other is opening should be the piston on top.
In the most situations you can find marks who are almost or complete on their place, or just one position for the chain to fit.
After this, turn the crankshaft 2 complete strokes by hand to be sure valves and pistons are not touching each other, but this is not for each engine the same risk.

mikey, after looking at the happy face system i think it is the same as you are referring to ?
