A penny ? back in those days, I would have thought you could get a freeze plug and not have to make them from pennies. I would keep the penny around just for laughs.

But when you were out on the road, you would have a penny in your pocket, but probably not a core plug in your emergency spares. I've done that repair by the roadside on at least three occasions (not in Singers, but a penny was a universal repair item!).

Oil strainer has been repaired using brass from the Mesh Company. The size used was 30 lines per inch X 0.28mm wire giving a hole size of 0.57mm. Clutch pull-off forks were repaired by silver soldering 7/16" ball bearings onto the ends.
...and new thrust ring and anti-rattle springs from Hardwicks.

The Six is on hold while I finish the MG TD Brian. My friend has been unable to find the time to make the windscreen surround due to pressure of business, and I have already mentioned that the trimmer let me down on the seats without explanation. The MG is almost finished so i will get back on the Six after that. I have another friend whom i may ask to take on the metalwork for the screen and who knows, I may have a go at the seats myself....

Back onto the body whilst I wait for the new camshaft from Newman Cams. After much trial and error I finally got the wood frame fitted at the rear.

Thanks Bill. I didn't think I could get to all the rot without taking off the skin but most of the screws had broken and I only had to drill two holes in the skin to release the rotten cross member that supports the spare wheel. Keeping the sheet metal intact maintained the shape and avoided the need for a sheet metal worker. Thankfully, Mike shipped the remains of the bottom rail with the car so that I had a pattern.

Between ebay and Dave Hardwick Spares I have been able to source most parts but I seem to be stuck on the Silentblocs for the ends of the leaf springs. These are larger than the ones for the '9'. They are listed as E21032 in the Silentbloc catalogue and measure 9/16" x 2" inner, 1 3/16" x 1 3/4" outer. Does anyone know where I can get them from?

Occasionally, ebay comes up trumps and this week has been no exception. Who would believe that I would find the missing half of my SLC-2 switch and get it for the opening bid of £30? and then, in the same week a brand new Lucas DK6 distributor top!
but not everything went my way and I was outbid on this Lucas C32D 6-way junction box that eventually sold for £62.
Perhaps Vintagecarparts will remanufacture one if they see how much this one went for. They already make the smaller, 3-terminal, C30.

The new camshaft has arrived! After months of phone calls Newman cams has finally delivered. Sent to John Parker who is rebuilding my engine and here it is installed in the 'spare' head that he has found. Is that Giffords '35 4-seat in the background?
