Mike,

I had forgotten entirely about the singercars.com 'main' site. I can't seem to find a link from the forum back to that site. Am I missing something?

Its amazing how many times that PDF has been downloaded over the decades. When I got my first 4AD back in 1974, that was all I had (I have the original from which I scanned the PDF) to take apart and rebuild my 4AD as I didn't know there was a club. I have lots more to add to the main website, I will be getting to it this weekend some more. I have 86 pages out of 369 pages, so a few to go :) and I want to add some. Even though the main website is pretty dead, this forum seems to have taken over and that is not a complaint.
I'm just happy the forum and main site are here and active for people that are still finding there older Singers and just starting their restores.
I'll be looking forward to any more info you might be uploading on the 4AD as that's my baby now. It probably won't be a full restore back to mint condition as funds are tight right now with business being so low with the Covid-19 issue. I do plan on getting her running and drivable, and some basic cosmetic repairs done as well. Will you be uploading any 4AD info in the near future ? Thanks, Bill

Yeah, that has ALWAYS bothered me that there is no way to put in a link to the main website with this Forum software. I could make the Singer logo up in the left go to the main site but hardly anyone ever clicks on it. I think I will make a "sticky" post, I try to avoid them but ok, talked me into it :)

I have the bonnet side trim and the Lucas king of the road headlights if you are interested. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Dave
Here's the Singer decal I was looking for, if you might have ?
If not, maybe someone else might have to sell ?
The bottom one is the one I'm most interested in.

The top text Singer, is this original?
I have also 2 of them here, one of the 4A front's have it.
The other 2 not, so my first idea was a self made logo....

bitsobrits wrote: Mon Mar 08, 2021 3:49 am Those headlamps look to be aftermarket units. Original ones have the wiring going through the mounting post and running under the fender. Also, mine have chrome trim rings on the front, but not sure if that's standard or not

Otherwise it appears you have found a nicely complete car, which should make for a good project.

The boot and bonnet latches take a tapered square 'key' with a T handle. Used on various British machines of the period, so shouldn't be too hard to find. Or easy enough to make.

edit: I see Moss has them. Search for p/n 386-810. My original looked just like this one.
Thanks for the heads up, I ordered one of these for Moss for only $8. plus shipping, works very well.
But they couldn't help me with any other parts for my Singer. As Singer cars are not in their system, and the guy on the phone never even hear of a Singer, even though they specializes in the British auto. He said he would need a cross reference to a know British car like a MG for example to look up a part. I'm wanting the all the ignition parts (coil, plugs, wires, points, cap) for starters, which I'm sure are common British parts, but I need a part number to to search for or a cross to another more well know car ?? How are you guys getting over this issue here in the states?

as to Moss, you have to go to the counter and they well know what a Singer is, but I walk there during lunch :). Not during COVID they have closed their storefront and even though I can walk there, they insist on me ordering and paying shipping.

I am surprised they don't have a parts interchange, I know the headquarters in Goleta did have one at one time but that goes back to when Moss was in charge, I would have thought they had put that in their computer and I am shocked they hired someone who didn't know Singer, they used to be better than that.

I will hunt down my stuff on the 4AD for plugs, points, etc. I know I had a list somewhere, was David not able to help with part numbers ? he should have them. And you are right its all standard British stuff, I bet you can get all the ignition stuff at your local auto parts store (once you know the numbers)

Have you searched this forum ? (I will in a moment) this has had to come up before.

That would be great if you could locate a list of ignition part numbers, hopefully it's a generic type of number, not something specific to Singer only.
I'm also in driving distance for the Moss location in VA, it's maybe a 90 min drive from me. But like you were saying, their showroom / counter is not open to the public right now.
As for Dave Green (BRG), I sent him a DM and also email pointing to the forum topic: https://forum.singercars.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1686
asking for his input, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Dist cap I believe is MGTD Lucas # 418888
Ign. coil Lucas 45074 MGTC & TD NAPA Echlin IC64 may work
Condenser Lucas 409613 Triumph TR-2 Napa EP29 (may need to fasten to breaker plate if old condensor was soldered to plate).
Points Lucas 407050 Triumph TR-2 Napa CS204 (I have run across diferences in point sets so this may not work)
Rotor Lucas 4000051 Triumph TR-2 Napa EP41

Great info, thanks a lot, very helpful.
Have a completely different question now. My Singer is white? I've never have seen a pic of a white 4AD anywhere.
Might have it been painted white after, or did they make them in white also ?
I'm asking because I have the Bill of Sales going back three owners, and in the older ones it says blue ?

White was not a factory colour for the 4AD, but there were a few different blues. The nicest in my opinion was Coronation Blue, which was a very fine metallic and looked very nice with the gray interior that it came with.
