1932 9 Sports - Fuel Tank

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

1932 9 Sports - Fuel Tank

Post by George »

Hello all,

I've recently purchased my grandfather's 1932 9 Sports and the first job I'm tackling is the fuel system. The carburettors were gunked up with rust and this has been traced back to the fuel tank being completely rotten. It was sent away to see if it was repairable but I've been told this morning its too far gone and can't be saved.

The mechanic I'm using has said that Dave Hardwick spares doesn't seem to have fuel tanks for it, although I have sent them an email just incase this is incorrect.

He said he knows a bloke who makes fuel tanks but won't have space until mid January.

Does anybody in the Singer community know where I can get hold of a suitable fuel tank for it?

Many thanks in advance,
George

George,

As I'm not in the UK, I can't recommend anyone. But if you have found someone who can make a tank that's probably the way to go. I've had several tanks made for my vintage projects, with good results.

Have a word with your local radiator specialist. Over the years I have had several petrol tanks made with their help. They will be able to transfer any fittings from the old tank, and so long as you have dimensions they will be able to make an accurate copy.

If you are in the East Midlands, then I can recommend Mansfield Radiators, they did an excellent job for me a couple of years ago:

Thanks both for your help.
I think I'll go down the route of having a new one fabricated then and wait until January to use the local company. I've got the original tank back from the repair shop now so can give that to them as a template.
Cheers again!
