1.5 gone, sad day, good day.

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

1.5 gone, sad day, good day.

Post by mikeyr »

Well I certainly had no intention of ever selling my 1934 1.5Litre, it was my retirement project after my 34 9 LM restoration was done. But reality has to sink in sometimes, I have lost a lot of interest in Singer's and other cars kept coming up and requiring my attention before Singer's. My daughter's Mustang, my Son-in-law's Mini and house projects, I just didn't see myself ever finishing either Singer. Out of the blue, unexpectedly I got an offer on the 1.5 and it was a hard decision but its gone.

I really hated to see the car go, but its going home, back to the country it was born in and to a member of this forum who will restore it properly, he promised my wife a ride in what has been her car for 20 years, it was HER Singer, not mine, but I just didn't see a way to finish it time and money wise.

On the good side, instead of a pile of wood that is currently my LM,
My LM in in its current condition, now a new body is on its way
My LM in in its current condition, now a new body is on its way
it now has a fully built body on its way (not quite yet on its way, it needs to be built but that deal is done also) so now I have some time to finish some details in current projects, get the LM back in the garage and get as much done as possible before the body arrives. As the Admin of this forum, I sure have not been posting a lot, but look out regulars, I am going to catch up to you.

You must be quite sad. Still, I look forward to watching the progress on the LM. It must be great to have some space in the garage and the use of your lift back. Do you have an estimate for when the new body will arrive?

No time estimate yet. I am going to guess about this time next year. The builder hopes to ship it summer next year, so if summer means the same in the U.S. as the UK, that means shipping it sometime June-Sept. and 2 months at sea getting here.

And YES quite sad, but relieved as well, I no longer have to worry about how to finish this car and concentrate on my LM. The LM is being moved TODAY now that the space has been cleared up. I am on the hunt for a hard to find (only produced a few years) Sprite rear axle now, that will go on the LM and not mess up the wheel tracking as its only a tiny bit wider then the LM rear, allow me proper gearing and much stronger axle shafts to handle the Sprite motor, its either that or get a standard Sprite rear axle, have it cut and axles shortened to Singer dimensions, I want to use the Singer back plates for the brakes and everything, just have a stronger rear axle to handle the motor.

So as you can see, I am excited by the prospect of getting back on one car and only one...but sad to see such a beauty go.

Congratulations Mike. I expect to see a running LM chassis in the near future.

Very soon...

Just moved my son-in-law's mini out of the garage, still not running but its only details left. Moving things around, don't worry the mini will go back in before the day is over, not going to leave it out, but what fun it was to roll the LM chassis out tot he driveway. I be one happy kid about the LM

there you go, progress on the LM :)

Son-in-Law's Mini is nearly finished, but as you can see still on roller skates, having some issues with the front suspension and can't get the tie-rods in, pretty sure we missed a part that needed to be converted/installed when we converted from LHD to RHD, I think its more than just swapping the steering gear but he is looking into it. I put all my woodworking tools on the lift and my welder to get them out of the way, my daily driver goes under the lift.

And now my LM is back on the scissor lift where I can start cleaning it up. Heck, I might even take it apart and repaint the chassis, its gotten pretty beat up. Getting rid of the 1.5 really cleaned up a lot of space in the garage, even though the mini is quite small, it was hard having 3 cars in the garage and room to work.

So is this enough progress :)

I like finned brake drums, they help with cooling and brake fade, the 1.5 had a brand new finned drums also.

Good eye, noticing that in the pics though, I would have missed them.
