'34 Le mans gets paint

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

'34 Le mans gets paint

Post by Peter McKercher »

Although I have been concerned that they might no longer be selling gas when I completed the Le Mans, looks like I'll get in under the wire. I picked up the body from the painter's today. The balance of the parts will be completed over the next month. In the meantime, I have probably put more miles on the Nine Sports than in any other year. The weather has been perfect with more to come throughout the Autumn.

I like it...when the border opens come on down and do that to my car :)
And if Colin shows up, i bet it can done in a week.

Ok, so seriously, my car is moving along SLOWLY but happy to say I have been out there everyday doing some little thing to it since the body arrived. Waiting on some parts from Hardwick (for quite a while now) and its also summer so playing outside but I am going on it daily, even if its only 20-30 minutes.

A beautiful Autumn day to get both the girls out. An early winter is predicted, so there may be few top down days left this year.

Both cars look great! The steering wheels look like original Ashby & Brooklands. Did they require much restoration and if so, how did you do it?

Yes, they are both the originals and in reasonable condition. I built up the rubber (or whatever the rim is made of) where the spokes are secured with two part epoxy, sculpted and sanded as required, then blended with black paint. The spokes were sanded and painted with chrome paint which has stood up quite well. I may at some point take them back to bare metal and buff with fine grit sand paper, but it's a tedious job.
