We removed the gearbox today. There is movement on the the main shaft but more significantly the 1st gear set is b@ggered.
The teeth are worn wafer thin. The gearbox number is 3546.
Are there any 1st gear sets being remanufactured ?

Re: Singer Le Mans gearbox noise, update
A good workshop can make any gear set from scratch.
I used a few years ago a workshop like this to remake gear parts from a digging machine who was not in production any-more.
I am sure in every country these workshops can be found.
For example, the people from the rally Paris - Dakar are using these workshops to modify the factory gearbox for the rally.

You could also try the spares holders for SOC and SMC. There are bound to be used gearboxes that could be cannibalised.
Re: Singer Le Mans gearbox noise, update
I have used cold laser welding before to repair a rear diff, so that is always an option.

Be careful if you swap gears from another box. I have found that early boxes had a slightly different distance between shafts. The cogs will go in but the mesh is all wrong. Guess how I know this

I was kindly offer a complete gearbox by David Freeth, that had been on his shelf for 40 years. We have turned it over manually and given it a clean up. We will refit it tomorrow and fingers crossed it will be noise free.
