Tacho drive 1933/34

Does anyone have a photo, or dare I ask a spare, of the piece that attaches the tacho drive cable to the bottom of the distributor housing?

If I can’t locate one I can probably make one but I have no idea what it looks like or how the tacho cable is held in place?

I have a brand new rev counter drive. Purchased from Hardwick's a few years but never used. Just opened the box and wrapper to take this picture. Approx 5ft in length.

Thanks, mine is the same cable but without that brass attachment. But if all you use is this piece what holds the cable in place? For the speedo there is a locking bolt that uses the yolk on the cable end to keep it in place.

The brass section in your photo appears to be just a section of plate with a hole in the centre, colu you please attach to the cable end and post a photo?

Plate needs to be brazed onto the shaft.

Hi,
The cable supplied by the Hardwicks is the same for tacho and speedo. That's why the tacho comes with a yolk.
Measures for the tacho fastening plate are: Width 25 mm, length 50 mm, thickness 7,7 mm. c/c screwholes 36 mm, 5.5 mm dia.
Pls, note the grind-off on one side.
You had better make one yourself, since the center hole is too roomy on the supplied one, making it awkward e. g. for silver soldering.

Attached a couple of photos of the ends of the tacho drive (complete with verdigris) from my 1934 Le Mans, which is probably the original. But why an earth cable since there is no internal light in the instrument?? Also for the record a photo of the ends of the speedo drive.

Thanks, I may have to back to the drawing board but this is what I made up based on earlier photo and fitted today. At this point in slipped in easily. Tomorrow I will tackle the instrument ends, I can then at least do a static test of the tacho.

I did not include the extended support, if needed i can always rebuild.

I have just fitted this to my '33 Le Mans but had to elongate the holes on the Hardwick supplied flange to get the holes to line up.

What I am a bit unsure about is where the speedo cable and rev counter cables feed through the toe board. Currently both put through the hole for the steering column along the the wiring but it is a bit cluttered through there. Is this the correct route.
Can anyone post photos of how they have done it or where they were routed originally.

Hi, that is were I have run mine for now, with some ties to the steering column, from what could ascertain that is the correct location for left hand drive cars.

Going through the pics in this thread (isn't it great to have the time to do stuff like that ) I noticed that although the speedo cable shown by casadecabra looks to be original - it has drive for a Smiths speedo. Did Singer's use either? I've only seen Jaeger on the cars I've had through my hands

The speedo dial is marked Jaeger and as far as I know the instrument is original, although I suppose it is possible that the movement has been replaced by a later Smiths one at some time in its history. The number printed just below the centre hole seems to be '103' if that means anything to anyone.

Unfortunately I can't examine it in more detail at the moment. My Le Mans is in a garage half a mile away and (under strictly enforced Spanish rules) I can't legally get there at the moment because of the lockdown! Very frustrating!
