Info about hood hinge fixtures

Post by kabu »

Hi,

Im restoring a 4AD roaster from 1954. I am totally missing the fixtures that attach the hood hinge strip to the bulkhead and radiator support. Im planning to fabricate the fixtures but would nee info on their dimensions and shape. Can someone take picture(s) of these fixtures for me?

I assume that the fixtures have been similar in all 4xx roadsters.

Thanks in advance,

If you scan down the list of topics in the forum, to 4A bonnet brackets on March 3rd of this year, there are several suggestions for sources for these brackets. I hope this helps.

Pekka,

Further to Mark's info, I was just at Beaulieu 2 weeks ago and picked up a pair of bonnet hinges from Paul Beck. The mounting holes for the radiator shell will need to be modified a bit, but they do work well. They are a bit higher than the Morgan susbtitute, so hopefully less stress on the top corner of the bonnet.

Here is a link to the Paul Beck site and the hinge ends.

Hinge ends

Post by GeneA »

I have the Paul Beck hinge ends as described by my learned friend Mr. Bouchard. They do fit well, but expect to probably make some modifications. How much hinges (sorry I couldn't resist) on what a previous owner has done. In my case, on Blood Pudding, my 1949 roadster, it wasn't too bad.

Hi,

Thank you all for your comments. I did browse the previous forum message subjects but somehow I totally missed the bonnet hinge bracket thread.

I see that Paul Beck has two different barackets which to be look suitable but which one is correct?

A) http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/en/167 ... t-details/

B) http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/en/187 ... t-details/

I'll add a picture of my singer in its current state. The project is a total nuts and bolts restoration. Now it is starting to look like a car again ;-)

It seems that Paul Beck has also the hinge strip but that is 1180mm long and the singer hinge is 1015mm. Of course you can cut the strip but that exposes the brass in cut end. Does Bill Haverley o someone elso supply correct length hinge strip?

One more question, is any of the Paul Beck bonnet rest tapes correct for singer? Im totally lacking those as well so i dont have a model of the type.

hinges

Pekka:

the link Paul has posted is for the ones that seem to be the best fit and are the ones I have on my car. It would be (b) in your message.

As far as the hinge strip, the cut brass end would be covered by the hinge.

Not sure about bonnet rests, as I have a 4A and the bonnet is different.

Looks like the car is coming along nicely--can't wait to see it when it's Finnish

Pekka,
I just ordered and received a "spine end bracket" from Bill Haverly in England for a nominal fee if you wish to save yourself a lot of work. If you don't know how to contact him, here's the info:

45 Lanfham Road
Teddington, Middlesex

England

Telephone: 020-8977-6148

Good luck, Richard
