Where to find a radiator cap

Post by tufsinger »

All,

My 54AD has been spitting at me when she warms up. Runs okay but squirting fluid. I believe I have it traced to the radiator cap. The seal is split and not sure how well it's holding pressure, if at all.

It may also just be a wrong-fitting cap. Surely not original unless the Brits and Germans got together in 54 to make an Audi radiator cap.

Wondering if anyone knows what caps may be a compatible replacement.

Many thanks,

-Thomas

Is it a version with thread?
I know some other British cap will fit, I found a spare in a box with Austin parts.

Do you have pictures from the actual situation?

I believe the threaded radiator cap used on the thermsyphon system in A's and 4A's was also used on various Morris cars. I've picked a few up at Beaulieu over the years. Strangely enough, it also fits the Singer Senior radiator!

The 4AD used a pressurised system with a water pump. Dave Green, our NASOC parts guy and Meisterwrench did an interchange guide for the 4AD and I suspect he may well know what cap can be used!

Not threaded. Looks like a "normal" radiator cap. Pictures enclosed. As mentioned, it's not original but something off an Audi or similar.

Any type of workable replacement would be perfect.

Thanks

That is not an original 4AD radiator from what I can see of it in the photo! Looks much more modern...
