Wiring loom cover

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Got home and measured up the length. It is 28 inches.

Looks like you've made great progress!

Here's a bit more on the wiring loom cover...

This is the remains of the one that came with my 1934 Sports 4 seater. It's only the bottom half and you can see the weak point where they all seem to break off:

Here's the complete unit mounted on my spare steering box and column so you can see how the notched end fits over the casting:

Here are some clips I picked up at Beaulieu one year in the hope they might be adapted to work on a repro loom cover but I doubt it. They are too long when unbent:

We'll see what turns up at the next Beaulieu...lol!

Thanks, yes those springs were my first thoughts, but they are very brittle and need to be retempered etc if they would fit.

One suggestion has been to make a reproduction spring from mild steel but use two fine nuts and bolts to secure around the steering column. Almost out of sight. Iam still thinking about that option.

In the meantime fitting my harness continues as my knee allows, see attached. Bottom end done, now the top end. Off to the physio now

From a gentleman in Canada several years back. They were the last set he was making because of difficulties finding quality compaies to cast the hubs. It was some time back but I will see if I can track down his details. Thet weren’t chea, but they look great!

LOL! That was a project that I did with Paul Bouchard and Len Pearcey. Len made up the patterns and we funded the batch. A steep learning curve on the variations of backplates and drum types between 33 and 37, but we did them. Len passed away, but the foundries that did the work also didn't want to do very small batches any more. A shame.

Here's Len with the first set ready to fit to my '33 Sports:

The patterns got badly damaged and the cost was getting too high. Even so, they were far cheaper than from sources in the UK. Paul and I spent 'way too much money on this folly, but it was a fun project and they look awesome on the cars.

Thanks for the background and pic. They look great on the car and I have to admit the cost to get downunder I elect to forget. But it is good that the history is documented here and those that contributed. Again, thankyou.

Glad you were able to score the last set for your car Darcy. They are heavy blighters, especially in a set of four, and I can only imagine the postage costs to your part of the world!
