For sale 9 Sports Saloon

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Nice project! I wonder what the engine and chassis are like, but the body looks to be pretty sound.

Looks like mainly sun damage. Beautiful car. Funny how two have cropped up in the past six months.

Hi Roel,

Thanks for posting this photograph. It's really interesting to compare this car's details with the 1935 Nine Le Mans Sports Coupe:

-rear side window on this car is larger, longer, and fills the panel more fully (leading to a more Riley Kestrel-like appearance than like the Singer Nine coupes I've begun to know)

-no running boards

-large louvers in the scuttle sides as compared to more and thinner louvers, continuing the bonnet's side louvers instead of a vent door

-what appears to be a vent door atop the scuttle (makes me wonder if the windscreen opens as in other Nine coupes)

-no louvers in the bonnet top

-rain gutter only extends over door windows on this car; on my '35 Le Mans Sports Coupe the rain gutter passes above all the side windows ( to my eye, the better to unify the window elements into a visual unit on the car's side )

-the body shell in the rear protrudes outward from the waistline, like the line of the Nine Sports; on the LeMans Sports Coupe, the roofline descends without the 'bump out', in what is essentially an uninterrupted, almost streamlined line.

-4 chrome dots on the two piece bonnet ( to prevent paint damage from panels rubbing together when one half of the bonnet rests on the other half when opened )

-single wiper blade? Can't see the photo well enough to say. There are double wiper arms on the Le Mans Sports, but it's not clear that the passenger side wiper was original to the car.

-there are no roof vents on the listed car, whereas there are two 'eyebrow' vent inlets on the body above the windscreen on the Le Mans Sports Coupe.

-Interestingly, there is also sign of metal deformation or failure where the A Pillar joins the scuttle and at the bottom rear curve of the door jamb, just as there is on my 1935 Le Mans Sports Coupe.

Beyond cosmetics and design features, the shoulder bolsters of the seats seem deeper than Singer seats; they look more like Alvis seats, which have a deeper 'cup' to the sides.'

Following the link posted to the listing advertisement ( for 12,000 Euros ) shows three more photos, one of the rear panel, which appears to have a separable (?) insert behind the extrenally mounted spare wheel. No photo of the engine compartment or chassis is shown.

I remark that the hinges are body colored rather than plated. Since the seller claims 'original condition' ( en su estado original ) I find myself considering that claims of hinges being body colored from the factory might be true. As I'm relatively new to the Singer world, there may be many remaining examples where the hinges remain body colored. On both of my prewar Nines, the hinges were plated. Was that at some time after those cars left the factory? 83 years is a long

I find this a very attractive car. Thanks again, Bill, so much for posting it.

Cheers

It is a 9 Sports Saloon. And yes all hinges were originally painted.
