Merrickville European Car Show

Post by Phillip »

The first annual Merrickvlle European Car Show took place in the picturesque town of Merrickville Ontario, on Sunday, September 23rd, at the Blockhouse Park next to the canal locks. The weather was fine, if a little cool.

Although this was called a European car show, it was probably made up of about 90% British cars, with Porsche, Ferrari, Saab, and others sprinkled amongst them. About 100 cars participated and three were Singers!

Barry Phillips, who lives locally, invited us to attend the show and fly the flag for our favourite Marque. Barry displayed his 1935 Singer Le Mans while Paul brought the 1948 Singer Super Ten and I brought my 1936 Singer Le Mans Special Speed Model. I also entered the Land Rover just for fun.

For a new show, it drew some interesting vehicles like a very rare - and Singer Super Ten-like 1947 Morris Ten, an Aston DBS, a pair of Ferraris, a Marcos, a TVR and a Bentley S2. As usual, the Singers drew attention all day, with Barry's LM being the oldest car on the field.

It was also a delightful surprise to meet up with Barry Stephens and his wife, who were showing their E-Type Jaguar. Some years ago, Barry bought my 1947 A Series Roadster and has just finished the restoration. With only 60 miles on the car, he is just getting used to taking it out and building confidence in it, but we hope to see the car out at events next season. It looks terrific in the photos he showed me.

The setting is delightful and local roads perfect for enjoying our cars, so we hope interest in this event will grow in the future. Congratulations to Barry and his team for putting it together and inviting us to enjoy it. We look forward to next year!
