New York International Motor Sport Show 1953

Post by Peter McKercher »

Here's a rather intriguing photo. It was taken at the Second Annual International Motor Sports Show in New York in 1953. Both Vaughan Singer and Singer Motors displayed at the show. No indication which party was showing the Nine Sports or why. A possible indication is the object which appears to be some form of sign or 3d script sitting on the bonnet, but it is not readable. Clearly used and leaking from the timing chain cover. Is this car one that still exists in North America.

Is it possibly a commemoration of Singer's 20th anniversary of its debut at Le Mans. Interestingly it sits beside the White Hawk, a jet propelled hydrofoil that would attempt to beat the water speed record of 178 mph

While I have several shots of the two booths occupied at the show, I have never found an over all shot. It would have been fascinating as it would have shown the Perry Fuller car, the Ghia coupe, the Nine Sports as well as several 4AD.roadsters.
