Original 1934 Le Mans

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Original 1934 Le Mans

Post by telco.2 »

Hi Folks,
Not long ago I published a rear end shot of a Le mans owned by Reggie Tongue taken shortly after purchase. I've now found two different shots of the same car (which I knew I had but couldn't find). Hope you like them!
regards
Bill

Hi,
Glad you liked the '34 Alpine rally photo...thought you might! Reggie Tongue a pre war racing & trials driver started his career with Singers and I was fortunate to meet his widow before his photo albums were dispersed. She very kindly lent them to me and I had most of the Singer related ones professionally copied. Here's another one

Absolutely love these period photos!

Great for getting the magnifying glass out and checking for original details...beautiful!

I'll see if I can dig out a few...maybe we should start a new thread for period pre-war photos?!

These photos are beyond wonderful.

Thanks so much for sharing them.

They are such a window on a simpler time: beguiling.

Hi Folks,
Glad to say the 14hp engine is now turning over fine on the starter motor so ought not to be a problem when it has ignition & petrol
In the meantime here's another Le Mans 9 photo taken on 1934 Alpine trial
keep up the good work everybody; it's so encouraging to read of other's efforts in the rebuild game
kind regards
Bill

That's amazing ...and to see the war time headlamp masks in place makes it a real period piece.
On another subject; does anyone know what literature was supplied with 9s when they were new? I have found booklets relating to the Lockheed brakes, Dunlop tyres, Champion spark plugs & Castrol booklet / lube chart which are all specifically stated to be for the Owners' of Singer cars. I assume from the wording that they were supplied with the car when new but wondered if anyone out there had come across any other material.
Happy singering & tinkering

Hi Darcy,
The 9 wheel cover has only just been listed & comes up OK on the eBay number. It is in Scotland but that shouldn't make too much difference

I think it is a bit wrong slotted; it comes up under Singer nine spare wheel cover and is on at £0.99p at the moment
If you can't see it let me know & I'll have another go for you
