I well remember your write-up's in the Singer Owner! The 2 litre is a lovely car indeed, but - yeah - very 'exposed'..lol!

This is another awesome period photo full of lovely original details; the mirror with the black backing; the correct Rotax type 40 tail lamp ( I just scored one of those for my '33 Sports which looks the same as this car ); the starting handle hole plug; 'dumb bell' wing nuts holding on the front valance, and the rather 'added on' looking original mud flaps on the front wings. The temperature gauge on the radiator cap is an item I have seen on other '33's and the cap itself looks somewhat like the earlier ones used on the Singer Senior!

A reverse apple green and ivory paint job must have looked pretty striking!

I have just looked up your Fox and Nicholl car Bill. Wow, what a beast and a magnificent job too. I can however understand why you might want a hood!

I was generously provided by a UK owner (who was a draftsman) sets of drawings taken from an “original” ‘34 car. I know he has shared them elsewhere and would not mind me doing so. Like all items of this nature care has to be exercised in interpretation as these were taken from an existing, complete car, and as has been said many times,each car is different. But they were invaluable to me as a guide and in terms of getting curves etc correct. However, I also “beefed” up some corners etc to avoid future problems.

Great to see these pictures; thanks for putting them on. We've all talked about the differences between cars and on '34 4 seater picture 194 you can see that the door pocket is square - ish. Whereas on the original panel with the remains of my car, the pocket shape is totally different! more semi circular in out line. And it was an original leather covered plywood panel of the correct colour and was screwed to the door frame when it arrived.

The original pocket was semi circular on both the Sports and Lemans. The wood work behind the pocket was square, formed by two wooden stops to keep things from falling behind the panel.

With respect to similarities in wood work between the Sports and Le Mans, I would say that nothing is the same. I have compared bits and pieces between my two cars and, while many things look the same, for all intents and purposes, they are not interchangeable.

What an evocative photo of the F & N special at speed in the wet. Lovely!

Speaking as we have about differences, the '33 Sports door pockets, door catches and mechanisms are different again from the '34 Sports and Le Mans.

The wood frame of the '33 / 34 Sports is totally different from the Le Mans and, indeed, from the '35 four seater Le Mans that followed and the '36 Sports after that.

The Le Mans frames between '34 / 35 / 36 changed dramatically as well. The 36 cars and especially the B37 that followed hints more at the Roadster that was to come in '39. The ad for the Roadster said, "from the inspiration of the Le Mans model", but a chunk of the wood frame certainly was!

... particularly when running in the rain sans hood can lead to such dramatic images.

Usually I'm a bit of a purist, but I like even better the version that's been 'colorised', for want of a better term.

That really is evocative, almost cinematic. Very nicely done.

(BTW I believe the Beast was pulled over to the verge, whether to take shelter (?), make a photograph for fond recall, or fend off comments (flak?) from She- Whose-Opinion-MUST-Be-Considered. I don't know which --have a hunch-- but don't think the car was moving at that very moment. Is that correct?)

Well...thanks for all the comments and advice! Yes we were stationary and under a bridge on the M6 because I couldn't see and Liz reckoned two goldfish had taken up residence in my goggles...
It was all good fun and the right way to enjoy the car, but once the driver is getting beyond his sell by date it's time for a bit more comfort
