1934 Sports

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

1934 Sports

At long last a major step forward as we started on the upholstery at the week end. Bonnet is progressing nicely too so beginning to feel as if I might at long last have a prewar Singer to drive again :D

It looks like a really nice job Bill. Did you make the panels with the louvres or was it all outsourced?

Like the period colour scheme...a nice variation on the apple green and ivory original. My '34 Sports has the same!

Hi folks, thanks for your comments / encouragement! The bonnet was off a 1935 coupe with a 1" deep swage line. I cut this off & then welded the 2 bits back together. I acquired another similar bonnet which had been seriously modified on the top panels (for bigger carbs?) then I used parts of the lower halves to make the 2 lower fixed panels. I'm almost there just waiting for a small welding job to be done before filling /spraying.
Liz (wife) chose the colour scheme when we bought the pile of bits quite a few years ago and we were staggered to discover from the build sheet that Ivory/apple green were the original colours!! (We don't like Singers apple green so used brg as a replacement) regards to all

Hi Bill,

Wonderful progress on your project. Happy to see your posts as it's inspiring to those who have even more to do than remains on your car.

Do you mind a couple of questions?

1 When you received the 1935 coupe bonnet, were there any other parts from that car? (I have a 1935 coupe and some parts in particular are hard to find) If there were other coupe bits, might I ask for contact information for the source --with their permission, of course?

2 Was there a pair of chrome raised 'buttons' on the top / central panels of the bonnet? I ask because these are present on the bonnet on my coupe. They are designed to keep the metal panels apart when one is folded atop the other.

Thanks very much in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Regards,

David

Re Coupe bonnet. I bought the '35 coupe bonnet a) because it was aluminium & b) because I couldn't find a tourer / Le Mans one. Yes the buttons you mention were on one of the bonnets and I will be re-using them, but I might have a couple of spares if you are stuck.
Thanks for your kind encouragement too. We made the plywood trim panels for the rear wheel arches today also the cover / rear floor under the rear seat and the seat base & back. Also cut out ply front seat bases. Will post a couple of photos when these are installed hopefully by the week end.

Can you please take some pictures when you get to the back seat? I miss it on mine.

We didn't get as far as we hoped on Friday as the rear wheel arches were a lot more "fiddly" than expected! It is a Singer after all!! But I'll certainly post more pics when we've finished the arches and I have the remains of the rear seat which I will photo & post

FYI, I have a very original and complete back seat but will need to get them out of storage.

Will try to do that for you...

Thanks Philip, but as the car is in no way "original" my trimmer & I have decided how we can make the seat look authentic and suit the use we have in mind. However, no info is ever wasted. Bill
