Engine Color
Engine Color
Forgive me if there is already a thread on this subject. A search did not reveal anything.
I have a 1949 4A. Can someone assist with the color of the engine block, valve cover, manifolds, etc.
Thank you
Scott

Re: Engine Color
on my 1951 4ad everything not electrical or fuel was painted orange and then dropped in the chassis
Re: Engine Color
The engine block, head, gearbox, etc, were painted what can only be described as "primer brown"

Re: Engine Color
Is this the possible color?
This gearbox was not in use since 1968, so it is not far from the production in 1950...

Re: Engine Color
Yes! That is the original colour for Roadster engines - 1074cc and 1500cc!
Hope that helps!

Re: Engine Color
Thank you all. I was assuming it was red from the left over paint, but I now understand it is orange. I will move forward with what looks to be MOPAR orange.
Re: Engine Color
I'm not an American Car Guy, but if Mopar Orange looks just like light brown primer, then that's it!

Re: Engine Color
Mine is orange and I think it's original.
Re: Engine Color
The photo of the gearbox in an earlier post shows the original factory colour, which, I guess looks 'orangey', but to me looks like primer.
As Mike stated, it's ugly, but correct!

Re: Engine Color
I just ordered a litre from the original colour, for a respray, with the gearbox as sample.
I hope in a few weeks I get the paint with the number on it, so I can write it on the board.
