The Lucas Pull & Spin wiper motor was standard fitment on the Austin Ruby, so current from mid to late 1930s; an excellent unit which will be far more practical than the original vacuum wiper.

What a piece of luck: Mike Hyman from ASCO told me of a Junior radiator and surround for sale so I have bought it. I had a 5 hour round trip to Worcester today to pick it up but it was well worth the trip, and after losing one between Australia and here I wasn't prepared to trust a courier!
The surround is solid and is in very good general condition with only one small repair required on a bottom corner, and the radiator is in great shape subject to a water test. The surround has tiny traces of plating left in places so I will get a quote to have it nickel plated. I am still working on the Light Six but the Junior has required a bit of a focus, and in this incredibly hot summer in the UK it was quite nice to sit in the aircon in the car over the hottest part of the day!

Thanks Everyone! My friend Dick is going to repair the very small missing area at the bottom of the passenger's side of the surround next week after which I will get it plated. In the meantime I have fitted the Pull and Spin wiper motor which sites very nicely under the hood. I think I'll wire it into the lighting system so the dynamo will be on charge when its working.

Colin! What an awesome find that radiator was! Mike has helped me with pre-war parts in the past and is a real Singer enthusiast and a pleasure to deal with. A fellow Editor too!
My Senior had the same "spin" type wiper motor conversion as well, although I now have an original vacuum type one rebuilt and ready to go on. If you look really closely in the 1934 handbook showing the Sports Nine dashboard, you will see the same type fitted to that car also.

Thanks Phillip - I find sharing trials and tribulations helps me keep going! And yes Mike is a treasure and Aunty is an absolute mine of information.
I took the surround to the platers today as they suggested they should see it before I did anything to it. They were very positive and will do the whole job including making the repair to the small area of corrosion after gently bead blasting the surface to clean it up. Following this they will give it a copper coat which will be polished before the nickel goes on. Price is £380 plus VAT which I think is very reasonable. I haven't gone for the top quality finish as that entails polishing the base steel before coating which I think could be more risky in terms of distortion to the shape, and anyway the surround doesn't need to be better than the rest of the car which is charming but not concourse. Apparently this procedure will only take a few weeks rather than the 3 months I was given on the phone.
