Hi,
I am afraid I can't help you with your issue, but I thought I would pick your brain on a problem with my 1951 Singer. The car starts, but as soon as I push in the clutch it starts to slow down and when I push the clutch in and try to let it out, the car dies. I have a bad feeling about this. Can you give me any place to start looking?

first question would be with the clutch in, can you shift gears easily ? If not, then your clutch is likely dragging and needs to be adjusted or replaced. Also how good are the motor mounts ? if they are really sloppy, it is possible that when you push the clutch in, you are moving the motor/gearbox assembly forward and not fully releasing the cloth, again allowing clutch drag.

Luckily the clutch on these cars is a easy swap, an afternoon's work and still be done for dinner, but there are a LOT of things to check before getting to that point.

And to answers Peter's question, I don't know. It was easy when I last did a clutch on one of these :)

Seriously, though if they are no longer available there are places to rebuild the pressure plate and reline the disc.
