xmas came late but it arrived

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

xmas came late but it arrived

Post by mikeyr »

I got a big box of goodies from Hardwick yesterday...I bought EVERYTHING that makes a Singer Le Mans a Singer, all the little doo-dads and parts that make it look original. Like the chrome parts that hold the seat back on the body, the reclining thing on the seat back, all the rubber parts he sells, all the windshield parts he sells, my windshield frame is pretty rusty, going to try and re-use it, but the windshield folding locking hardware was a big wood screw on one side and a nut on the other side, so I ordered all the odd/ends for that. The hood hold-downs and dash grab handle are his castings and will need lots of work. It's the little details that when you look at a car, it looks "right" and I got one of everything he had in stock...sometimes 2 :). Still missing parts but at least when someone from the UK visits they will see a proper Singer, not a Singer with MG parts on it. I have to figure out the dash next, I want original looking instruments but I am putting in a A-series motor, so some work to do there.

I also had Hardwick ship the body builder in the UK a stash of parts that he will put on the body for me, Hardwick had exterior locks and door handle (used) and I am still hunting for some interior ones, but I have some parts now to help me make my own (other thread here), those little springs will make it easier. Best news, is covid related for once, because of the UK lockdown the body builder has spent more time in his shop and made faster progress on the body before mine, mine has actually been started, months early. Not fully started, the prior body is not finished, but some wood shaping has begun.

Work on the Mini has come to a stop, son-in-law got a new job and no time to work with me, he is now a road warrior and doing training up and down the west coast. Mini is basically done though, fully assembled and roll-able. Need to figure out some engine details and a wiring harness for the Yamaha RZ motor that went into the Mini and when he has time we will finish it. It's going to be one hell of a hot rod. But right now, it's ALL Singer in my shop.
