New Singer Juniors

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

New Singer Juniors

Post by mikeC »

In my capacity as editor of an Austin Seven magazine, I have just received this wonderful photo of Neville's Garage in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. In addition to the most important cars (the Austins!) it appears to show four brand-new Singer Juniors. The two Austins and two of the Juniors have near-consecutive registration numbers dating from April 1931, and I would surmise they are all brand new awaiting their first owners (the other two Juniors have yet to have number plates fitted).

Having owned a 1931 Junior...my first car at 17 ...I really loved the photo. I kept mine for 25 years and it was in daily use for much of that time. We covered 100,000miles together (including most of my courting!)
Thanks for the photo many happy memories, Bill

Digging my memory box again, I remember buying a burnt out 31 Junior for spares in 1979. I have a photo of the remains but unfortunately it is too poor quality to scan. The amazing thing is that the registration number was...VO 5235! I wonder if it was bought at the same garage?

The VO letters were allocated to the whole of Nottinghamshire, so the chances of VO 5235 being sold through Neville's is fairly slim. Just a couple of years later there were 22 Austin dealers alone in Nottinghamshire; there would be fewer Singer dealers, but probably well over a dozen. Still, it's a nice thought! Here's an enlargement of just the Singers:
