Brakes 33/34
Brakes 33/34
A strange request, but can anyone assist me with a photo or instructions on how the return spring on the brake pedal is fitted, mine didn't have one and while I have tried several configurations, none seem to work to my satisfaction, so over to the gurus? I may be trying to use too big or too small a spring?
Thank you
Thank you

Hooks to the engine back plate- I think...
Re: Brakes 33/34
It does on mine too - on to a small right angled bracket about 1.5mm thick. There was a hole already drilled in the back plate for it

Re: Brakes 33/34
Can anyone post a picture of the arrangement. I don't have a spring on mine and see no logical place for it to connect either at the pedal or the engine mounting plate.

Re: Brakes 33/34
Sorry for the delay - 80 mph winds prevented me opening the garage doors!
My '35 car has an elongated clevis pin at the pedal end. There are two holes in it for split pins - one retains the pedal, the other the spring. The other end of the spring is hooked onto the bottom of the engine 'U' bolt using a washer with a bent tab on it. I'm not sure if that is the original arrangement but it was like that when I got the car in 1967 and has worked fine ever since!

Excellent. That looks right. Hooking to the engine backing plate did not look correct. Too much of an angle. Thank you for posting.

I have a '33 Le Mans that I am nearly finished and didn't realise that the brake should have a return spring. Lucky I saw this article

Sorry about giving incorrect information on the brake pedal return spring....I had "forgotten" that the engine in mine is 14hp with 1 1/2 litre gearbox. Slightly different set up

Re: Brakes 33/34
You are forgiven, Bill. By the way - are you the gentleman that took this photograph of my car around 1975 during a Lakeland run organised by the Binghams?
Re: Brakes 33/34
Thanks...I'm not often described as a gentleman!!
But no I didn't take the photo although I was at the rally and had a small part in organizing it.
