Cape Town Up Date

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Well done Brian. Things are progressing nicely from last year. I've been working hard on mine as well, although not much to show except a wall full of refurbished parts. I have about 99% of the chrome work done. All that's left is the rad surround. Chassis is done and wood work is started. I'm just weighing the pro's and cons of new wheels versus respoking the old ones. Expensive either way

Hey Brian,

I have a diagram somewhere of my full-low filter system. Will have ot try and dig it out. There are many remote filter units available and the Hot Rod fraternity uses them. Samples can be found at:http://perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page30.html

Tony Raynor in California is running a very similar system on his '36 LE Mans Speed Special, which is the same car I have. I can put you in touch with him if you wish.

Here's a shot of a similar system installed in a '36 LM in the UK:
System installed in UK
System installed in UK
I have photos of other various oil filter systems installed on the 972cc engine taken over the years, both in the UK and New Zealand. I will dig them out of the archive and post them if you'd like.

From one pre-warrior to another, nice work on the car!

Cheers,
Phillip

Brian
Looks like a nice installation. However, you may wish to look at how you will bolt in your radiator. The filter appears to be sitting snugly against the hole where the rad mounting bolt goes through

Unless, of course, you are planning to use the rad bolt to mount the filter solidly to the chassis

I have used a different browser and I hope that the issues with frustrating failures to post are over!!
The photo of the remote oil filter shows it just ahead of the radiator cross member which makes it a little vunerable but there are a couple of reasons.
I wanted to keep it away from the heat of the exhaust and I intend to install one of those neat electric water pumps, being Africa ( the temp yesterday was 37C) it seems prudent.
The MG's fitted their oil coolers up front I think so I am content that it will not come to too much harm.

The mounting of the filter is in fact against the vertical face of the cross member leaving the hole for the radiator free.

Post by darcy »

Resurrecting an old sream, does anyone have drawings or more recent experience in adding an external, screw on oil filter? There was mention of drawings?
