Re: 1934 car electronic
To answer my own post and maybe help another;
The car had been wired with dynamo terminals reversed and the CFR2 unit was not functioning correctly leaving the dynamo open circuit hence 40 - 50 volts dynamo output going nowhere..
The breaker points worked when manually operated but failed to close by a few thou when operated by the solenoid.
A good clean and a little bending later with a drop of silicone fluid and all is well. About 3.5V on the field for low charge and 10.5V on high charge. Some ~15V heading to the battery on high.

actually his Dad drew it.
And great news on getting the wiring figured out and car charging.

Neil,
So reversing the polarity on the dynamo had no ill effect? Is the "D" terminal on the dynamo the closest one to the engine block

Re: 1934 car electronic
Hi Peter
The CFR2 points being jut open but not earthed had been preventing anything happening except me getting an open circuit dynamo reading of around 50V on the dynamo connector block.
When these were corrected I got the voltage readings on the two dynamo contacts which told me which way round they needed to be.
A previous owner had rewired in non standard colours and not quite as expected and the dynamo has just been rebuilt. Quick swap over and all is working well.
Only taken 10 days of odd hours looking to figure it out!
