Hello all,
I have completed a complete rebuild of a members Singer 1500 cc motor. Watch the video on www.youtube.com
Use the subject line above in the search box.
A bit crude on the engine stand and the ancillaries but got the job done.
Enjoy.

Hi BRG,
Cool! Congratulations, looks and sounds good. It is nice to know that you have a well running engine when you put it in the car.
I did not run my engine on a test stand before I installed it on the chassis. Luckily I did test it before I put the front end panels in place, because there was a leakage problem in the engine and I had to take the head off to fix that.

Pekka,
Thanks for the comment. Also thanks for the direct link. Don't use you tube much and the link will save the hunt & peck I use.

Re: 1952 4AD Motor Start up
I could not help but notice that even on a slight rev up the oil pressure gauge was getting pegged over 50 lbs. That seems unusually high for that kind of motor. Once it broke in what kind of oil pressure do you get at idle and running down the road. What oil did you use. In mine I run Kendal 20-50W synthetic blend. I get 5 lbs at idle and 25 going down the road when fully warmed up on a fresh re-build.
Re: 1952 4AD Motor Start up
Howard,
When the engine got up to operating temp the pressure went down. Also you can adjust the pressure relief valve located by the oil filter. Screwing it in will raise the pressure and screwing it out will lower the running pressure when the engine is at speed. The recommended pressure in the mini service manual is 30 psi at 30mph in top gear. As I did not have the motor in a chassis and could not run at 30 mph I just set it by rpm and the motor went back to NJ for installation with instructions pertaining to the setting of oil pressure. I just used 30 weight conventional oil.
BTW the 4AD the motor went into is now in Germany.

Hey Dave,
Is that the ex-Frank Gump car that Frank brought to the 2012 Stowe event? I recall you took on the motor rebuild.

Phil,
Yes it was a fun but time consuming job. Lot of little things and some big things to sort out and it took 3 blocks to get a good builder.
