Fuel tank dipstick

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Fuel tank dipstick

Post by mothy »

Having made a calibrated fuel tank dipstick for the Austin Seven, it seems like a good idea to make one for the Singer.

Has anyone got any pictures (and indication of scale) of an original fuel dipstick for the 9 Le Mans?

Thanks

Hey Mothy!

I made mine out of a wooden paint stir stick - just the right length - and filled up the tank a gallon at a time marking it off on the stick as I went. It seemed to work out at @ 1 inch per gallon on the stick as I recall, but I can measure it up for you. That did me in a pinch as I was anxious to get the car on the road. Hmmm...that was nearly 14 years ago now!

I do have a photo of a Junior tank dipping stick, which turned up at Beaulieu a few years ago, and I will try to find it and post it.

Cheers,
Phillip

Thanks Phillip

I have a stick without graduations that does the job. Half full, got some in, looks a bit low, does the job in a practical way.

I was interested in seeing what a factory supplied dipstick was like so that I could attempt to replicate it.

Cheers
