Silent bloc bushing installation

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Silent bloc bushing installation

Post by Peter McKercher »

A rainy Saturday afternoon. A perfect time to replace the silent bloc bushings on my Le Mans. You pre war guys ('33-'34) will know what these are for. They can have a profound effect on steering if worn. The tough part was already done - removing the old ones.

Slightly chamfer the leading edge of the new bushing. Using a high tensile fine threaded bolt with washers that clear the inner portion of the bush, draw the new bushing through the housing

Make sure the casting that houses the bushing is perfectly clean and smooth. Lightly grease.

Nothing to do with Singers, but I received my copy of Moss Motors "British Motoring" magazine today and featured on the cover and inside were shots of my old MG YB. The on-line version is at http://www.britishmotoring.net/.

Hi Jimmy,

I believe you may need Harris bushings, not the Silentbloc bushings.

Harris bushings look like rubber top hats and are used on the Roadster suspension. Two are required per shackle pin - one each side. They are bolted tight and squeeze under compression.

They are available via Bill Haverly, the ASCO Roadster spares man. He can be reached via spullen3@aol.com.

I was visiting him last week and saw some in the spares shed!

Hope that helps.
