A collection of Singer Juniors

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

A collection of Singer Juniors

Post by JamesD »

When I was younger a family friend Geoff had a lot of influence on me, having not only a driveway full of old Jaguars and Daimlers, an Austin 16 for daily use and about four vintage Rolls-Royce's. But also a fleet of vintage Singer's- Not to mention the house was like an aladdins cave of antiques and interesting stuff.

Over the years we have kept in contact and I have looked after a few of his cars, and service and keep in roadworthy condition his 1913 De-Dion Bouton.

Recently tho there has been activity as a lot of the antiques and properties have gone up for sale so I was contracted in to help dig out something I haven't seen since 1987- Thought i'd share it with you all

The old shed from the outside, the building itself being historic as it was NZ's first pharmacy built 1830's
On a property in Lower Hutt, NZ- used for storage and saved from demolition in the late 80's

Image

Hard to photograph inside as so much dust and poor lighting.

first glimpse of the 1928 Singer Junior tourer

Image

Bonnet off to lubricate bores, motor swings on the crank now

Image

Door open, first of the saloon's sees light for the first time in twenty years

Image

Alongside it's identical car in a garage in Kelburn, moved out there temporarily till I start work on the one on the left.

Image

Finally get some room around the Tourer, tyres even hold air still..

Image

Arriving at work an hour or so ago, will be flushing the tank, attempting to start, new tubes and a bit of a polish and I will be taking it up to British car day on the 19th of February
Last time I saw this Tourer was 1988 and I was four years old and I have a photo of me standing on the running board :)
It's now a runner.
Found two more complete chassis inside, a pile of motors and parts including a bunch of Singer Ten motor's and something really rare..

Unearthed another Junior, a 1931 four speed, this had to be dug out of the ground.

Image

First glimpse of a rare 1931 Singer 10 chassis, car is complete apart from seats and rear panel, chassis and rear panel were stored outside
Chassis is in poor condition and the rear body was stolen, most likely for it's aluminum.. May make a good special
More as I find it.

What a great discovery of vintage Singer stuff!

It's very encouraging to see earlier Singers being rescued and restored. Since purchasing my '28 Senior Coachbuilt Saloon, I have acquired an appreciation for how well built and engineered Singers were in the 1920's.

Good luck with the restos and lovely to see the 'oily rag' tourer back on the show circuit.

Bravo!
