Tires
Has anyone had any experience with the excelsior 450 X 18 tire supplied by Coker Tire in the U.S. or with Coker in general with respect to quality and service.

Re: Tires
Peter,
Coker Tire is located about 120 miles down the road from me in Chattanooga, TN. I have purchased two sets of tires for my 4AD and am quite pleased. They have an outstanding reputation in the auto restoration industry. They frequently sponsor our local car shows. When I was originally looking for tires to complete my restoration, I found Vintage Tyre in England to be a source. When I contacted them to purchase tires, they said they would be glad to sell them to me, but they get them from Coker tire!

Re: Tires
Thanks Mark. Good to know. I was a little wary as my first set of 450 X 18s purchased at a good price were a total bust. I forget the name of the vendor, but it was a widely advertised U.S. company at the time. The tires were Commanders, another variation on the Dunlop tread.

Re: Tires
The 4AD I sold 2 years ago had Excelsiors from Coker on it, no issues, but I only had about 100 miles on them when the car was sold.

Re: Tires
The problem with the commanders was that there was an imperfection in the mold so there was an actual deformity in the tire that wasn't evident until I put them on. Unfortunately I had purchased them several years before I got the car on the road , so I didn't have a lot of recourse. If I recall correctly, the name of the supplier was Willy's or Willies. They advertised a lot in Old Car Magazine.
