I got a new car this weekend, been looking forward to getting it as I have big plans for the motor. But after I got the car home, I am looking at what I bought and walked into the house told my wife that a few weeks ago Peter called me a "hoarder" because I had some spare lug nuts and brake drums for a poster here. I had to tell my wife that Peter might be right, after looking over what I got I came to the conclusion that I have enough parts that I could finish this car CORRECTLY, all the proper bits and get a nice 4AD together. The only thing I am missing is a speedo and gauge cluster because I gave those away to a club member late last year. Also missing top bows since I have given all of them away over the years, after all it never rain in California.

No kidding, I really could finish this car, I have to keep telling myself, I need the motor, I need the motor, no more 4AD's for me EVER, must resist. Notice the high tech CocaCola distributor, what will the kids think of next on these cars, what was wrong with the old fashioned distributor that they have to come up with clear plastic ones so they can see the spark created ? Yeah, its a also a Single carb motor but no worries I will not lower myself to the point where I would drive a car with only one carb, I will put my last twin-carb head on it and I will finally get to use my RHD 4AD bell housing that I have had since the mid-1970s, never did figure out how I got a RHD 4AD bell housing since they never made a RHD 4AD but I finally get to use it. This motor will use up most of my last spares as it has been stripped externally of every removeable item but I have everything so it will be a running motor soon.
But as I worked on bits yesterday I kept thinking to myself, what is it about the 4AD ? why is that I can look at this and go "Yeah, not a problem, I could do this" with total confidence, yes, I have done a few of them before but why is it that the 4AD is so confidence inspiring when the pre-war Singer's are down right scary, there are times when I wonder if I ever will finish my Le Mans but I could finish this 4AD much faster then the Le Mans. There is no real difference between the Le Mans and the 4AD, its just a frame and body with a motor but while I would really have to think before taking on another pre-war project, a 4AD is almost fun, why ?
At least its going to be fun until Dave gives the total cost for the parts, I assume I will need pistons/rings and bearings, everything else I have, although it will burn up my last NOS twin-carb gasket set.
Just some random thoughts
