Hi,
Can anyone help me with some mysteries?
1) I have a '53 4AD with a Tillotson DY1A carburetor manufactured in Toledo OH. Any idea why? All the books say the Singer came with a Solex. I rebuilt the carb last year and it is hard to start, I don't think the mixture is right, but I can't find a manual for the carb. The company is now based in Ireland, but I have not been able to get in touch with anybody. Any idea where I can find an adjustment manual for a Tillotson DY1A? Should I replace the carb with something else?
2) I have a broken trafficator lens so I ordered an SF80 lens from Vintage Supplies Limited of the UK. (They also have bulbs). The model stamped on my trafficator is 15c. The sf80 is too short. Any idea where I can get the 15c lens?

I assume the Tillotsen is a replacement as the Singer came with a Solex FAIO. You may also be looking at more than an adjustment. I do not know the Tillotsen, but certainly the Solex could be infinitely rejetted depending on the application. The main jets, pilot jets, air correction jets and choke tubes all came in a variety of sizes and combinations and had to be right for the size and performance of the engine.

1) As Peter already commented, the Tillotson is propably a replacement that has been made by some previous owner in the US. It is very unlikely that Singer would have used an US manufactured carburettor (or actually any US manufactured part), practically everything was made in England back then. The whole British economy was starving for foreign currency, it was "export or die" for most of the companies.
2) Gregorys Autoparts lists trafficator lens for Lucas model SE62, that seems to be 22cm long (SF80 is 19cm long). My car does not have trafficators so I do not know whether the SE62 is correct.
