Le Mans Boot (Luggage Space) Cover

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Le Mans Boot (Luggage Space) Cover

Post by casadecabra »

Can anyone help with information about the original boot cover for my 1934 Le Mans 9 please:

What material was used? Black double duck (same as the hood) or leather/leathercloth (presumably of the same colour as the upholstery)?
How was it attached to the body at the front? Was it cut to fit around the rear seat adjusters or were they screwed on top of the fabric?

Thanks

Dave - I can't say for sure what the original was, but I believe black leathercloth.

In terms of installation, here are some originals from back in the day, some from a fairly original car (green) which retains the style but not the original material, and my own based on the green car. On mine, I omitted the attachments for the top as I don't have one fitted.

Note the toggles to secure the cover in place are double height in order to accommodate the tonneau cover as well.

Thanks Peter for your very helpful response.
I think I've now got a good idea of the shape of the cover but I'm still in a bit of a quandary as to what material to use. Does anyone else have any information?
