New find in Australia

I don't know exactly what this is but its similar to a 10/26 but with a fabric body. It has been found by a chap I have been contacting regarding his Six chassis and engine that he plans to turninto a special. He hasn't bought the 'new' car yet as apparently lockdown in Australia is still pretty firm. Any ideas about what this is? It may be a special with a Singer rad surround but I told Eric I would try and identify it.

I have just had this message from Trevor Leach who is SCC president in Australia:

"The Singer he is interested in is a very complete car and was owned for quite a while by Wal Gunn a deceased member of our club.When it was with Wal it went on many singer rallies.It was sold,used briefly and sold again to a person who has done nothing to it,just stored it pretty well protected from the elements.It is a survivor car and should be preserved.A number of people have tried to buy it over quite a few years but the owners have been difficult to deal with and the sales have fallen through.It sounds like they have once again decided to sell.
It is described in the Singer cars in Australia book as a 1928 6cyl Singer Saloon.It is fabric body, has 7 main bearing motor.Clayton de wandre servo brakes.
Engine number 1219.
When I saw it last it was still in sound condition.Mechanically it was very good when Wal had it but I could not convince the owner to put a battery in it so a prospective buyer could hear it run.I do know it has a Studebaker rear end in it.
I hope it can be rescued and we maybe get a new club member."

My thoughts are that I wish it was closer! lol! I really like the idea if having a 6.

Amazing it is still there and for sale again.

At around £3000 it looks like a bargain to me! As I understand it the owners have been unreliable about whether or not it is for sale in the past but hopefully this time they are serious Trev.

This is the only picture I have: overhead valve engine looking to be in great shape. I have one of these too but mine is seized solid and has internal damage to the castings.

Update on the Singer 6 Sedan good news it has a new home with Singer member who has just completed restoration of a lovely Junior and needed a project.It will stay intact too no hotrodding of this one.Trev

Thank you, Trevor, for keeping us posted, and most likely for assisting this Lovely car to find its new home.

May I echo what Phillip said: preserving these exceptional early cars is increasingly important. Phillip helped me complete the purchase of BMX7 when balkish, unresponsive sellers would simply not complete the deal. I bought it to rescue it from hot rodding.

And do you remember the song, "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"? That's exactly what happened.

Used the car for our wedding a couple of years later...
