1934 9 Door detail

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

1934 9 Door detail

Post by darcy »

Hi, I am about to skin my doors but I am little concerned I may not have the detail fit correct. Can some please post some photos of the fit of the doors in the frame and how the skin is attached?

I believe I attach metal/aluminium frame to the sides and bottom of the doors and that the skin is then pressed around this frame? That pressed section then sits in the rebated timber frame.

Sorry to be vague, but a photo will solve a thousand words

I will take lots of pictures tonight, my doors are still unpainted and newly built.

here you go, I took too many pictures. There is a piece of flat steel (aluminum?) attached all the way around that goes into the folded part of the actual door, that holds it all all together. You can see it in some of these pics and also took some pics of my old original doors. Not sure if this helps, as I said I took too many pics. I realize these pics may not make much sense, but as a starting point it should answer your questions and I can take more detailed pictures if you let me know what exactly you need.

Thanks, they help a lot. I need to re access my edge gaps. From what I can see I first need to fit edge linings around each door and then l loosely fit the bottom and side edges that are eventually formed over on the door lining pieces, then focus on forming the top rolled edge and eventually the top right angle lip. Simple! Wish me luck. I will first try with 20gg steel and move on from there. I don’t have the option to weld aluminium, so I will stick with steel. The original Australian cars were steel bodied, so that is at least sticking with that part of originality.

good luck, if you need more detail pictures just let me know. I won't take apart my new doors but more than happy to take apart my old doors for details if you need them.

You could learn a lot from the Australian ladies Roadster restoration here:
